Disadvantages and solutions of immigration to Malaysia
Usually, when buying undervalued stocks, it is time to accept the current shortcomings but expect future value. Therefore, instead of looking at the house price only, the evaluation price is analyzed based on the surrounding environment and personal preferences, and a variety of information is collected and evaluated in order to select the underrated house that suits the person.
First of all, when analyzing the current challenges, it is to check whether the problem is acceptable to me, and when evaluating the future value, I compare the two on whether it is good enough for me to endure the problem.
First of all, what’s wrong with Malaysia?
There is no policing, night streets, and violent crime. Streets at night, where CCTV is not widely available, are particularly vulnerable to security. Facilities with excellent medical facilities are a bit expensive. It is inconvenient to move only with public transportation, and private education is not as well as in Korea. In some cases, industrial products in marts are more expensive than in Korea. Especially the quality of clothing is not good.
So what do you like about Malaysia?
Looking at the undervalued things, the future value will eventually return to profit when you accept the shortcomings. Malaysia’s SPM, STPM, Kolej, and other curriculums are not difficult to complete, but through intermediate university courses, you can create a good condition for going to a foreign university. If you get a bachelor’s degree in hotel management in your area, it is very useful to go to the Swiss Hotel Management Department, etc. to study abroad in Malaysia using an intermediate course.
Due to the Muslim nature of Malaysia, drinking alcohol is not common. So, when people in the family who have a lot of alcohol problems come, they see that they recover from their health really quickly.
The oil price is 600 won per liter, which is quite inexpensive. There is no country around where oil is so cheap. A new car was shipped in May and I rode it with Manki. Since it’s 10,000 kilos in about 130 days, it averages 76 kilos per day, and came out a bit after going mid- to mid-long distances, but the average fuel economy was 12 kilos/liter, and I used 833 liters of oil. It’s 2.1 ringgit per liter, so I’ve used 1750 ringgit so far. Since the exchange rate is 388 won per ringgit, it seems to be about 670,000 won, and about 150,000 won per month as fuel. If you go downtown, you can buy it for 7 to 8 million won per month, so the oil price in Malaysia is really cheap and helpful.
Engine oil replacement is also like a car wash in Korea, but 150,000 won…I don’t know if it’s more expensive these days, but it’s more expensive if you filter, but in Malaysia, it costs 2,000 won (proton) and engine oil synthetic oil is 150 ringgit at the Proton service center , Sami Synthetic Oil costs RM80-30,000, so it doesn’t seem like a burden to drive a car in Malaysia. The electricity supply rate is 99.5%, and electricity is the cheapest. In particular, the electricity situation is the best in Southeast Asia.
Frequently asked questions
Wouldn’t local cheap food be suitable for Koreans? This is what I hear most often recently. Ingredients for beans, meju, soy sauce, red pepper powder, and curry spices are the same as in Korea. However, this is because the recipes that taste different foods are different. Since the ingredients are the same, you can prepare it at a very low cost if you make it yourself.
Home appliances are expensive?
It’s not like that. Appliances Malaysia is cheaper. I bought a Samsung drum washing machine at home cheaper than in Korea. Electronics was cheaper.
When I go to another country, I learn English again.
It is said that when Gyeongsangbuk-do people go to Seoul, they do not learn Seoul language again, and the unique logic of the word is not to change, but to develop. In the midst of entering the era of superintelligence, will global pronunciation be such a target? In order to go to a better environment, there must be a constant effort by yourself.
Opinion
Recently, the number of variables has increased due to corona. Looking at the recent trend, when I see people coming to MM2H on retirement, I think that rather than living here completely, more and more people are using it as a platform for children’s education and coming to a better life, like a villa that lives here.
There are so many different countries in the world. It is important to find a country that is right for you.
There seem to be a lot of people thinking of immigrating to Malaysia. A lot of inquiries about living expenses, migration, and immigration come in, and there are a lot of blogs about the keyword. I would like to write down what I felt while living in Malaysia for 3 years. However, since the author is not a Malaysian immigrant, but lives in Malaysia because of overseas employment, it may be different from immigration or family settlement.
Disadvantages of living in Malaysia
- Transportation Similar to Korea, Interstate transportation was developed, but local bus routes were not developed. There are many railroad/monorail lines already, and the most recent MRT, line 1 and line 2, are under construction, but it is still unfortunate to go around every corner of the city. KTM is not recommended because the dispatch interval reaches 30 to 40 minutes, and even that is not recommended because there are many cases where the timetable is not properly observed or you have to stop in the middle and wait.
LRT or monorail rides, but it is very crowded during rush hour and often stops in the middle or delays by several tens of minutes due to breakdowns. The most stable ride is the MRT, and the first line (opened) of the MRT only goes to the section that is unfortunate. It is true that there are also few condos worth living around. In addition, condo prices have risen so much due to the MRT station area, so if you want to find a condo around the MRT, you should consider renting at least 1 million won (1 or 2 rooms).
Taxi often require an overpriced fare. If it rains or traffic is congested, you can add more money. Still, the cost of a taxi is much cheaper than in Korea, but if you don’t use a meter, there are many cases where you pay a lot of money. After Uber withdrew from Southeast Asia, a service called Grab has raised prices a lot due to its monopoly.
-
Rent and rent Compared to Korea, rent is cheaper, but you have to pay the whole rent. If you buy a house, the story will be different, but if you pay rent, you will experience Malay prices that are not very cheap. In particular, for Koreans who are familiar with apartment culture, they have to go to a luxury condo to get a living level, but a good condo in a safe dwelling is of course expensive.
-
Korean food In the case of Korean food, personally, Korean food is not essential, so it’s okay, but when you see people who really need Korean food, there are people who struggle. If you don’t live in a Korean town, you can go to find and eat Korean food, and you have to buy Korean groceries to eat, but the price is quite high because it’s imported. Malaysia’s prices are cheaper than Korea’s based on locals, so if you’re looking for goods from Korea, it’s highly likely that it won’t feel cheap.
-
Pork and liquor Because it is an Islamic country, to buy pork, you have to go to a local Chinese restaurant, a wet market (in Korea, it feels like a traditional market, meat, fish, shellfish, vegetables and fruits are sold at low prices), or in the non-halal section of a supermarket. Even if it’s not a halal restaurant, sausage and ham are mostly made with chicken, not pork. Pork is the meat that Koreans love the most, and of course it’s unfortunate. There are non-halal restaurants that sell pork, but there is a hassle of having to find and go.
-
Islamic culture Since it is an Islamic state, there are some things that must be observed, but in some cases it can be an uncomfortable requirement. You have to wear long sleeves and long pants (especially for women) to public institutions, and during Islamic prayer times, prayer sounds through a loudspeaker five times a day. If there are many mosques in the vicinity, the noise can be loud, so if you are going to see the house, it is best to go to see it in time for prayer. The earliest morning prayer time is around 4-5 am, so if you don’t want to wake up at that time every day, be careful.
-
Medical Compared to Korea, the quality of public medical facilities and medical services is of course lower, and insurance is often required for foreigners to pay quite a bit as insurance premiums if they do not have a job. It is not as well covered as in Korea, so care should be taken if medical services are often needed. It would be a good idea to come and go to Korea whenever medical services are needed, but it can be cumbersome and expensive (airmail, etc.).
-
Security There are not many violent crimes, but there are many pickpockets and car accidents. In particular, for illegal immigrants, there are drivers who drive by motorbikes or break rearview mirrors, but there are many cases where they do not receive compensation even if they catch them, and it is difficult to catch them. Pickpocketing is very frequent in town. You should carry your bag well, and sometimes you take your whole bag while you go to pick up food at a restaurant. As in Korea, it is absolutely prohibited to go to the bathroom or to receive a drink ordered by placing a cell phone or bag on a cafe table with peace of mind.
There are many cases of corruption by the local police, so travelers and foreigners are often asked for money by unannounced passport checks on the street.
- Language It is not unreasonable to live in KL city even if you are good at English. However, if you cannot speak English or all of the local languages, or if you are having trouble communicating, please reconsider your migration. Of course, if you live only in the Korean community, you will be able to live, but it can be uncomfortable because the situation where you have to use English always comes. If you have a question about how much English you should speak, of course,‘The better you do the better, the better.’
If local language is available, it is good, but if you live only in KL city, if you can communicate in English, it is not unreasonable to live.
Slow work This seems to be almost the same in other foreign countries except Korea, but anyway, the work process is not neat and it feels roughly rough. So, while living in KL, when I sign a house contract or apply for TV or the Internet, I double-check the contents of the contract and live. Sometimes I’m used to this kind of life, but when I happen to go to Korea, I admire the quick work process and service.
- E-commerce In Malaysia, there are several sites where you can order online, such as Tesco, Honestbee, Lazada, Zalora, Shopee, and 11th Street.
